Burnet’s Luke Kiser had a three-run, inside-the-park home run to help the Bulldogs in a come-from-behind 22-9 victory over Llano Tuesday night at the YMCA of the Highland Lakes Galloway-Hammond fields.
The victory clinched the Minor League District Championship for the 9-10 year-olds. The win was the second over Llano in three tries in the 12-team tournament. Llano had battled back through the loser’s bracket to win six straight before the loss.
Llano jumped out early to a 9-1 lead through 1 ½ innings. But in the bottom of the second Burnet came alive with 11 runs to take the lead.
The Bulldogs added another 10 runs in the third inning as four Llano pitchers couldn’t stop the Bulldogs bats. Burnet also had is share of baserunners from walks and errors.
Burnet will advance to the Sectionals which will start July 9 and run through July 12 in Fredericksburg.
Members of the Bulldogs team are Kiser, Landon Christian, Dylan Burton, Caden Strickland, Julian Garcia, Karson Rhoades, John Carter Wyer, Ryan Smith, Kash Dollar, Kody Suter and Caleb Frazier.
Landon Christian and Ryan Smith pitched for the Bulldogs. Llano used Brock Fly, Carso Kuykendall, Coy Kelso and Caden Bauman on the mound.
