Phones working again in Llano

Llano’s businesses and residences could finally use their telephones Monday after issues with Verizon’s equipment left many without phone lines since July 3.
The Llano County Sheriff’s Office could not take emergency calls last week and had them rerouted through the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office dispatch.
Additionally, businesses in Llano suffered setbacks while customers were unable to contact them.
Rosy Sanchez, owner of Rosita’s Mexican Restaurant, said her business did not have phone service for three days.
"It’s tough because we’re new here, so people get confused,” Sanchez said. "People thought we were closed.”
Sanchez said they rely on taking phone calls because their specials change every day, and customers call in the mornings to inquire about that day’s special. She also said they take many "to go” orders, and losing phone lines cost them business they cannot replace.
"We have customers who call every day at lunch and place an order, and we weren’t able to serve them,” she said.
The Corner Drug Health Mart also reported problems, especially regarding prescription orders.
"We had to coordinate with all the local doctors as best we could and use cell phones,” explained owner Todd Humphries.
Humphries said they had an answering service that recorded many of the prescription requests, which were then processed. However, he explained that this was an "after hour’s” service, which he felt made customers assume they were closed.
He estimated the store’s business was down about 30 percent from a normal day.
"I called Verizon every day beginning Wednesday and each time they told me our phones would be back up by 11 p.m. that night,” he said.
Humphries said phones were working again Saturday morning and they have had no problems since then.
