Spicewood residents sue PEC

Spicewood residents have filed claims against the Pedernales Electric Cooperative to rebuild their homes and lives, said an Austin attorney.
David Wenholz of The Wenholz Law Firm PLLC in Austin filed eight identical 14 page suits in Travis County District Court last week for Spicewood home and property owners who suffered damages in the September 2011 Spicewood Wildfire. These were not the first, Wenholz said.
"There are actually nine lawsuits. The first was filed six months ago and then eight more were filed last week,” he said.
Wenholz said the suits are based on allegations that PEC did not properly maintain their equipment, and said that information about the equipment where the blaze began has only recently been brought to light.
"The PEC pole was anchored and the anchor was not secured.
The poles leaned away causing the lines to sag, then electricity arced on the
sag lines dropping aluminum down on the ground,” he said. "It took an extremely
