HSB Resort to depart from Marriott brand

Horseshoe Bay Resort officials said Monday the Marriott name will be dropped from its hotel at the end of the year in order for it to independently brand the operation with its own name.
The move "will also help establish a new joint venture and/or attract a prominent new buyer” for the hotel and the resort, Horseshoe Bay Resort Vice Chairman and President Ron Mitchell said in a letter to employees.
The resort – including the hotel, yacht club and marina, four championship golf courses and an airport – has been on the market since January. Managing Director John E. Bourret Jr. of Holiday Fenoglio Fowler, LP, the nationwide firm handling the sale, said at the time there is a good market for such resort properties. Since then the Resort executives are known to have been in talks with several prospects.
The decision to independently brand the hotel "is all positive,” said Douglas Jaffe III, Horseshoe Bay Resort’s chief executive officer. "It’s great.”
