As a precautionary measure due to winter weather, Burnet Consolidated Independent School District, Faith Academy and Marble Falls ISD have cancelled school Jan. 28, 2014, school officials have announced. All Marble Falls ISD extracurricular activities will be cancelled. The Faith Academy campus will be closed until 1 p.m.
Llano ISD delayed school for 2 hours.
There are no reported road closures in Burnet, Llano or Blanco Counties at this time.
Bruce Peckover, Coordinator of Communications and Media Relations for MFISD, said temperatures forecast to remain below freezing well into the day as well as the number of students coming from out of town prompted the closure.
"MFISD is such a large district we have to think about the out of town students, we have kids coming from out of town and even from Travis County,” said Peckover.
In Llano County, Llano Independent School District Superintendent Casey Callahan said district representatives tested the roads early Tuesday morning to decide whether the weather warranted school cancellation or delay.
"Whenever there's an eminent threat for weather, we always try to get in our cars and drive in different directions, testing the streets, either the night before or the morning of school," he said.
After examining the roads, the superintendent said the district decided a two-hour school delay Tuesday was the proper decision as a precautionary measure for students and faculty.
Icy conditions last Friday prompted Burnet CISD and Faith Academy to close for the day while Marble Falls ISD and Llano ISD delayed the start of school two hours.
