Llano approves backflow ordiance

Llano City Council Monday approved the new backflow prevention ordinance as well as an interlocal agreement with the county for street maintenance.
The change to the ordinance involving the testing of backflow preventers on properties connected to the public water system—per the recommendation from a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) representative—had been discussed at previous council meetings.
As part of the change, the city would conduct the inspection and then bill the customer for the cost to ensure the inspection occurs annually and properly.
Alderman Allen Hopson suggested again Monday that the city create an amendment to the ordinance allowing citizens the option to select a licensed contractor of their choice. City staff reported the TCEQ approved this method.
