Latest K’land fire takes number to 22November 17, 2012, 4:35 pm by Adam Troxtell
Kingsland suffered another structure fire last night, taking the number of fires there since June to 22. The Kingsland Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene on Pecan Street at 1:28 a.m. Buchanan VFD also responded to the call. The blaze destroyed a two-story home that was unoccupied. "At that time of night, no one was alert enough to get the call in quickly,” Kingsland VFD Fire Chief Danny Stone said. "It’s completely totaled.” Stone said the cause is still unknown and Llano County Sheriffs and the State Fire Marshall are conducting an investigation. Responders left the scene at 4:45 a.m. A string of fires in Kingsland last summer, including one at the construction site of a Seton Clinic, led investigators to suspect an arsonist was to blame. In October, 17-year-old Dane Albert Burgess was arrested and charged with arson, but another fire occurred a week later. Llano County Sheriff Bill Blackburn said investigators suspect that fire was set by one of Burgess’ cohorts.
