Deer carcass evidence of mountain lion in HSB

March 08, 2013, 5:00 pm by Alexandria Randolph

A deer carcass found Wednesday near Silver Spur Street in Horseshoe Bay has led authorities to believe that a mountain lion may be present in the area.

On March 6, Horseshoe Bay Animal Control Officer Randy Lane was dispatched to the 500 block of Silver Spur Street in regards to a dead deer carcass. Upon arrival, Lane saw the carcass had a unique signs of physical damage and of feasting, and notified investigators from Horseshoe Bay Police Department to examine the carcass, police said. Investigators determined that this carcass bore characteristics of a mountain lion kill.

Police said that this is not the first time a mountain lion was spotted by Horseshoe Bay residents near the same area. A similar carcass was found on a golf course and in another incident, a citizen reported seeing a mountain lion dragging a deer across RR 2147. Visual sightings of mountain lions also occurred in the Summit Rock development last year.
