The Llano County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the theft of copper wires from a highline pole in Buchanan Dam, which is one of three similar cases that have also occurred in Burnet and Marble Fallsover the past month and a half.
Lt. Glen Williams, Llano County Sheriff’s Office investigator, said approximately 800 feet of copper wire was taken from the highline pole in Buchanan Dam.
Verizon was the victim in each case, according to Verizon spokesperson Jarryd Gonzales.
"From what I can tell, this hasn’t really happened in this particular area before, but in the past month and a half it’s been hit three times,” Gonzales said.
"Typically what they like to do is take it to recyclers and receive money for the copper.”
Williams said the possibility of a connection between the three cases has not been determined yet.
"We are looking into that,” he said, "and working with other agencies trying to piece some stuff together.”
In addition to the inconvenience, Gonzales said the removal of copper wires could have significant consequences for customers, in particular the ones using landlines.
