Child predator gets life sentence

A Round Mountain man was sentenced to life in prison after Judge Dan Mills of the 424th District Court found him guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Michael Ribera, 52, originally pled guilty to the crime on Oct. 22, 2010 and was placed on deferred adjudication for a period of 10 years. Ribera had been on probation three times before.
In the Blanco County Court Thursday, Assistant District Attorney Stacy Streetargued that Ribera had violated the terms of his probation and should serve jail time.
"Michael Ribera has terrorized this community for too long,” said Street. "Life in prison will finally put an end to the years of abuse by this dangerous man.”
District Attorney Sonny McAfee said that Ribera’s probation officer had found he was violating the conditions of his probation through failing to complete court-ordered sex offender treatment and counseling, committing new theft offenses, soliciting people online for sex, solicitation of prostitution and using methamphetamine and marijuana.
"He was arrested for writing three hot checks, and then later when his probation officer found out about the rest, Rivera was arrested for violating his probation,” McAfee said. "The probation officer did a good interrogation. He (Ribera) admitted the acts to his probation officer.”
