Two Burnet men are being held in the Burnet County jail after police said they used a shotgun to shoot their way into an apartment on Burnetís north side and were in turn shot by a man visting the female resident of the apartment.
Matthew Nicholas Basquez, 17, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence and Jack Dilon Dickison, 20, is charged with tampering with evidence, Burnet Police Chief Paul Nelson said Monday.
The shootout happened at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday when one of the two men, believed to be Basquez, fired a round from the shotgun into the door of the apartment at a complex in the 1100 block of North Main St. near Burnet Middle School.
The men burst into the apartment and engaged in a struggle with a third man who was with two women, including the apartment resident.
During the altercation, one of the men dropped a pistol that had been in the waist band of his pants and the third man got it and shot both of the intruders as they ran from the apartment, Nelson said.
The two men were apprehended later as they sat in their vehicle in the parking lot of the Best Western Inn on TX 29 West in Burnet.
