New turn lane possible in downtown Llano

The traffic flow in downtown Llano could see a significant shift after City Council members Tuesday approved a resolution requesting the Texas Department of Public Safety change Highway 16, from Ollie Street to just south of the Llano Bridge, from a four-lane roadway to a three-lane thoroughfare with a center turn lane.
City Manager Brenton Lewis said he had received letters from the Llano Chamber of Commerce and Llano Main Street supporting the adjustment. He added that retailers and citizens were behind the idea as well.
"I feel it would be a benefit for the city as a whole and also the community,” he said.
Mayor Mikel Virdell noted the current concerns with the highway’s construction are the speed at which traffic proceeds and the large trucks and trailers driving through on track to the Event’s Center.
