New passing lanes underway on TX 71

Construction has begun on news passing lanes on TX 71 in Llano County, which Texas Department of Transportation representatives believe will improve safety conditions and lessen congestion on the highway.
The project will also add left-hand turn lanes at CR 303 and CR 304.
Construction begins approximately five miles east of TX 16 and runs down near CR 307. Workers are upgrading the road to a "Super 2” highway to allow for the passing lane.
"A Super 2 is a spot where we widen the road, especially in an uphill grade, so instead of being one lane in each direction, they widen it to where on the uphill grade there’s two lanes,” said TxDOT Public Information Officer Chris Bishop.
Bishop said the passing lanes would run both eastbound and
westbound, although alternating at certain stretches.
