A two-vehicle accident on TX 71 ended in the loss of a Spicewood grandfather and injury to his grandson on Sunday afternoon.
The wreck occurred between a white 2012 Ford F250 and a red 2001 Chevy pickup at about 3:47 p.m. in Travis County just east of the Blanco County line.
The driver of the Chevy, Earl Lewis, 71, of Spicewood, was killed when his vehicle was hit by the Ford, driven by Midland resident Kylee Livingston, 27. His grandson, Jacob Abels, 15, of Spicewood, was badly injured.
Sharon Abels, mother of the young man and daughter to the deceased, said that Jacob Abels, a Spicewood 4-H member, had broken his collarbone and his ribs in the crash.
"He (Lewis) was trying to turn onto Fall Creek Road,” she said.
