A Burnet man was indicted on capital murder charges following the death of his grandfather in November.
Matthew William Reed, 23, was indicted on Jan. 7 on charges of capital murder after his initial arrest on charges of murder, a first degree felony, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, a third degree felony, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state jail felony.
Burnet County Sheriff W.T. Smith said in November that investigators responded to 2846 TX 29 on Sunday, Nov. 11 after family members of the deceased discovered Farest Elmo Reed , 85, dead. A press release issued by the sheriff stated that Reed had "obvious trauma to his head area."
Investigators learned that Reed 's pickup truck, a 1998 Ford F-150, was missing. Officers sent a statewide alert for the missing vehicle, the release said, and at 7:48 p.m. the same evening, the vehicle was observed near the scene. When officers attempted to stop it, it sped away westbound on TX 29 into Llano County.
