Mayoral debate draws crowd

Mayor Mike Reagor and challenger Mikel Virdell went toe-to-toe last Tuesday in a bid for the city seat listed on the May 11 ballot.
The debate took place at the Fuel Waystation with standing room only as citizens were eager to hear what the candidates had to say.
WC Jameson acted as mediator posing questions to one, and then the other with timed responses.
In their opening statements Virdell addressed the infrastructure, water, sewer and streets issues. Reagor spoke of coordinating the county's emergency entities, the new hospital, school issues, FEMA and the fiber optics that have been added to the city's infrastructure.
Next the candidates were asked about their leadership credentials.
"I've owned over 12 businesses here in Llano, some that I've sold and some that I still have, and have employed hundreds of people in the last 40 years," Virdell said. "I want to get Llano moving forward. I think Mike and the council has done all they can and I think I can do a better job. Water is our main issue."
Reagor countered, "We are working hard for this city, and many groups are...you are the members. We have survived a severe recession, one of the greatest droughts we survived by working together. We work well with the county and no one is going to work harder than me on the drought (issues)."
