Burnet put itself in prime position with its 44-36 victory over Liberty Hill last week.

Now, all the Bulldogs have to do is go take on the Llano Yellow Jackets on the road.

This week’s game between Llano and Burnet takes on extra meaning after Burnet’s huge win at home last week.

"Where we are located, everywhere we go it’s a rivalry game,’’ said Burnet coach Kurt Jones. "this week, we go west to Llano. If we go east it’s Liberty Hill, south it’s Marble Falls and north it’s Lampasas.’’

Burnet and Llano both sit 1-2 in District 8-3A and are tied with Liberty Hill for third place in the district behind unbeaten Gatesville and second-place Brownwood.

The winner of the Llano-Burnet is still in the playoff picture.

The game is considered a toss-up with both teams known for their hard-nosed style.

Llano is 3-5 and coming off a 41-7 loss to state-ranked Gatesville.

Llano then closes with Brownwood, which faces Gatesville in a showdown for the outright title this week.

Burnet has what looks like the easier path with a closing game against district winless Lampasas.

But first things first. The Llano-Burnet battle this week is huge.
