Llano’s boys won their second district game in a row Friday night, holding off Lampasas 52-48 to climb into playoff contention.
"These guys have extended my coaching career,” coach Aiden Callahan said. "They are a pleasure to coach.”
In their previous game, the Yellow Jackets broke a 35-game district losing streak with a 59-50 win at Brownwood. "We are a team that sets goals,” Callahan said. "It’s encouraging to reach some of them. But we still have things we can improve upon.”
Llano is 2-2 in District 8-3A and 15-12 on the year. Lampasas dropped to 1-3 and 18-9.
Yellow Jacket post Isaac Hutto and power forward Matt Center dominated the paint, scoring 18 and nine points, respectively, in a game Llano led pretty much from the start. Forward Devin Mayne started the scoring with a 12-foot turnaround then Lampasas sharpshooter Mason Murray’s three-pointer gave the visiting Badgers a brief lead.
