BURNET Ė Llano and Burnet played an error-free football game Friday night: neither team lost a fumble nor suffered a turnover Ė a rarity in high school football.
Burnetís 35-14 win was closer than it sounds. The outcome was in doubt until Bulldog sophomore Brock Foster scored the final touchdown with 4:38 left in the game.
Llano (4-5 and 2-2) can clinch a playoff spot with a win next Friday at home against Brownwood (4-5, 2-2). Burnet (6-3, 2-2) is also in the mix.
The game matched the two best quarterbacks in District 8-3A, which Texas Football magazine lists as the top Class 3A district in the state.
Llanoís Layton Rabb completed 17 of 28 passes for 250 yards and rushed for 62 yards on 10 carries.
Burnetís Derek Kiser connected on 13 of 22 tosses for 126 yards and a touchdown.
The home team Bulldogs amassed 441 offensive yards, led by Fosterís 13-159-2 effort.
Offenses dominated with Burnet amassing 24 first downs while Llano managed 17.
Rabb electrified the full house at Bulldog Stadium with a fourth down, 33-yard bullet to senior Chance Ware on a vital, third quarter scoring drive. The rangy 6-5, 200-pound senior roamed sideline-to-sideline before throwing a strike down the sideline to Ware.
Even Bulldog fans stood and applauded the sterling play.
Seniors Lance Reven and Mason Ladd and junior Holden Simpson had outstanding defensive games for the Yellow Jackets.
Burnet handed Llano a 35-14 loss Friday night in a District
8-3A football game.
Llano falls to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in district play with a
regular season finale against Brownwood at Llano next week.
Burnet improved to 2-2 in district with the win.
