Llano barged into the playoffs by defeating Brownwood 40-38 Friday night.
The Yellow Jackets (5-5, 3-2) will play Glen Rose (5-5, 3-2) in round one next Friday night. Time and site is to be determined.
"This is everything we’ve dreamed of,” quarterback Layton Rabb said after the game. "Most of us seniors have been playing together since we were little kids. This is a great feeling.”
Rabb is now Llano High’s all-time passing leader despite missing four games his senior year. He completed 12 of 20 passes for 285 yards and four touchdowns against Brownwood to bring his career total to 4,083 yards, surpassing the 2,614 yards of his big brother Preston Rabb, who Layton describes as his "idol growing up.”
Junior Tommy Yelvington’s interception with 31 seconds left sealed the deal against the proud Lions (2-3, 5-5) and quarterback Chris Keesee, who was frantically trying to pass BHS into position for a game-winning field goal.
"We were in Cover Two and he (Keesee) just threw it short,” Yelvington said. "This is just an awesome feeling.”
Running back Carter Tatsch was held to 49 yards rushing, but he scored four touchdowns on runs of four and 26 yards and receptions of 18 and 67 yards. "This was our last game on this field and we wanted to go out winners,” Tatsch said. He was an inspiration all night with his hard-nosed running and receiving/
Senior Chance Ware, who can play every position on the field, hauled in a 71-yard touchdown pass from Rabb on the second play of the second half to give Llano a 27-17 lead.
The rollicking second half was a battle of wills – and Brownwood blinked, committing two turnovers and 10 penalties. For the second game in a row Llano played a flawless game: no turnovers of any kind.
"That’s a testament to our kids,” head coach Craig Slaughter said. "That’s good football."
