Llano played its best game of the year - so far - by defeating Lampasas 47-39 Friday night at the neutral Max Copeland Gym at Marble Falls High.
Now Yellow Jacket head coach Aidan Callahan is looking for another neutral site for round one of the Class 3A UIL basketball playoffs. The game will likely be Tuesday night against District 7A runnerup Alvarado.
It’ll be Llano’s first basketball playoff appearance in 18 years. "That feels great, for sure,” coach Callahan said.
Llano senior Isaac Hutto scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in one of his best games of the year. But you could say that about every Yellow Jacket on this spring-like night in February.
LHS forward Joey Albor hit all three of his three-point shots on his way to a 12-point game. Guard Chance Ware connected on a three-pointer to open the Llano scoring then played a flawless floor game, especially in the fourth quarter when his ball-handling skills led Llano’s long, clock-eating possessions.
"We really came together as a team tonight,” Ware said. "We wanted to dominate. I won’t say that we did, but that was our goal.”
Well, Llano took an 8-7 first quarter lead, led 21-20 at halftime and 34-26 after three quarters. If it wasn’t domination, it was solid enough. The Yellow Jackets never trailed after the first quarter.
This play-in game win brings Llano’s record to 6-5 in District 8-3A play and 20-13 on the season. It’s the best LHS squad in almost two decades.
