Opal Mae Mendenhall, 81 of Llano, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31. She was born July 13, 1931 to Minnie (Harless) Dodson and Frank J. Dodson in Throckmorton, Texas. She married Frank Edward (Toby) Mendenhall in Haskell, Texas on July 4, 1949. He preceded her in death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers Dub, Frank Jr. and Odell Dodson. Mendenhall had been a resident of both Llano and Kingsland for the past 46 years, after moving from Odessa, Texas. She was a member of the Kingsland First Baptist Church and of the Llano Chapter of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by daughters Debbie Honig and husband Herman of Llano, and Rita Hicks of Graham, Texas; sons Douglas Mendenhall of Seguin, and Calvin "Rusty” Mendenhall and wife Sherry of Liberty, Texas; brothers Lavoy Dodson of Wisconsin, and John Dodson of Nevada; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Thursday, Nov 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Waldrope Hatfield Hawthorne Funeral Home in Llano. Graveside services were private and burial was at the Llano City Cemetery.
To include those that spent nearly every day with Mother for the past 4 years, her family of residents and staff at the Care Inn (Llano Rehab and Nursing), that are unable to attend a funeral, there will be a memorial service held on Nov. 18, at 2:30 p.m. at the nursing home in Llano with Brother Stacey Nobles officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Llano Cowboy Church, P.O. Box 177, Llano, Texas 78643 or Shriner Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
