Margret Riley Hooks July 29, 1933 ~ Nov. 2, 2012

Hooks moved to Austin in 1945. Three months before her 17th birthday, Margret graduated from
Austin High School in 1950. She was one of the first female students admitted to the School of Business at The University of Texas, and the first female admitted to the Transportation School at the University of Texas. In 1953, 19-year-old Margret graduated with honors, earning a BBA at the University of Texas, with a major in Transportation.
In a time when a woman’s contribution to the workplace was not highly valued, she was courageous. She began her career as a secretary, but eventually owned/operated a petroleumrelated company before she retired.
Hooks had an adventurous curiosity that inspired her to travel the world, including Indonesia, Europe, and Korea. Margret’s freezer was often filled with elk she had hunted and salmon she had caught in Alaska. Although not typical for most people in their mid-seventies, Hooks threw caution to the wind and recently went zip lining in Belize. She was also an avid RV’er, traveling between the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
Margret was a loving individual who adored her family, friends, flowers, seashells, fish, jewelry and animals.
She split her time between her lake house in Burnet and her cabin in Villa Grove, Colo., with her beloved Yorkie, Lil Bit, by her side.
She is survived by her two beloved sons U.S. Air Force Maj. (Ret.) Gary Parsons and wife Linda of New Braunfels, and U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. (Ret.) Larry Parsons and wife Jacqueline of San Antonio; adored grandchildren Anthony Parsons of San Antonio, John McCarthy of Philadelphia, Alyssa Parsons of San Marcos, Alysha McCauley of San Antonio, Amanda Mc-Cauley of Sarasota, Fla., Constance Parsons Parkhill of Fayetteville, N.C., Garrett Sturgill of San Antonio, Adam Sturgill of San Antonio, Alana Parsons of San Antonio, and Katherine Sturgill of San Antonio; beloved great-grandchildren Andrea Dorantes and Anthony Dorantes of San Antonio; cherished sisters Mickie Riley Inks of Westlake, and Sarah Riley Bryce and husband William of Georgetown; treasured nephews and niece Robert Inks and wife Mary of Lockhart, Floyd Inks, III
and wife Georgene of Ruidoso, N.M., Jeanna Inks Black and husband Bruce of Hamilton, Douglas Bryce and wife Grace of Georgetown, David Bryce and wife Lynne of Georgetown; faithful companion and much loved pet Lil Bit; and much appreciated neighbors Ron Adwers and wife Shirley of Burnet, Jim Carroll and wife Gladys of Villa Grove, Colo. Hooks was preceded in death by her dear parents Vance and Ada Riley; respected brother-inlaw Floyd Inks; and loving nephew Malcolm Bryce.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
