She is survived by five children and their spouses; Saundra and Charles Sharp, Randy and Bonnie Fluitt, Jeffrey and Clara Fluitt, Telie and Eddy Pabon, LaKay and Greg Steele, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She generously opened her "home of love” through the years to many other children and young people who refer to her as "Mom,” including foster daughter, Glenda Sanderson.
She married her husband of 65 years following her graduation from Marble Falls High School in 1939. Her life story and experiences are compiled in her book, "Ink of my Soul.”
She was a licensed minister in the UPCI organization and a member of the Johnson City United Pentecostal Church that she and Shelton founded in 1957 and pastored for 26 years. This thriving church, renamed the H.O.M.E. church after relocating to their present facility, is now pastored by her son-in-law and daughter, Greg and LaKay Steele.
The HOME church, located on Hwy 281 N in Johnson City, will host a visitation and viewing from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 26, followed by a celebration service Saturday at 1 p.m. with Rev Rex Johnson and Pastor Greg Steele officiating.
The gravesite service will be at the Hoover Valley family cemetery, 6 miles north of Kingsland, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Crofts-Crow Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements, and her 11 grandsons will honor her as pallbearers.
Special thanks to Telie and Eddy for being her caregiver during her final years, and thanks also to the nurses and staff of Texas Home Health Hospice. Donations to the Hoover Valley Cemetery and Chapel at 7235 Park Rd 4 West, Burnet, TX 78611 are welcome.
