Lucila Lerma Longoria March 28, 1932 ~ July 21, 2013

Lucila was born in Bishop on March 28, 1932 to Mauro and Francisca Lerma. She graduated from Kingsville High School in 1949 and received her BA and MA degrees from Texas A&I University in Kingsville. After teaching in the Texas public schools for several years, she moved to Seattle, Wash. where she taught for four years in the Bellevue school district. Her teaching career continued in Potsdam, N.Y., the U.S. Armed Forces Schools at the Torrejon Air Base in Madrid, and the Dallas Independent School District, where she was assistant superintendent until her retirement to Horseshoe Bay in 1998.
Lucila is survived by her husband, Frank Longoria; daughter, Rebecca Carter and her husband, Darryl; grandson Tony Longoria and his wife, Jennifer; great-granddaughter, Olivia Longoria; two step-granddaughters Lisa and Stephanie Carter, two sisters, Ninfa Arce and Nilda Garcia; brother, Col. Carlos Lerma and his wife, Sandra, and many loving nephews and nieces, as well as several grandnephews and grandnieces.
Lucila enjoyed traveling with their husband of 50 years to many countries and throughout the United States. Her greatest joy was making Christmas stockings for of her family members. She will be greatly missed.
The Longoria family is grateful for all the help and support from friends and neighbors, and also wishes to express appreciation for the wonderful care given at the Granite Mesa Health Center.
Memorial services will be held at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz Road, San Antonio, Texas on Friday, Aug. 2 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.
