Joyce’s family and friends were the most important part of her life. She was loving, kind and generous and always there to listen or help. Every evening, she would sit in her recliner to make calls to touch base with family and friends before the end of the day. Joyce loved nature. She would spend time on the back porch watching the activity at the hummingbird and bird feeders. Her potted plants and flower garden were her pride and joy. She had the best green thumb. The harvest from her vegetable garden was always bountiful for cooking and canning and sharing. Joyce loved to cook and bake. There was always a sweet treat ready to be enjoyed. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting and sewing. All her items were handmade from the heart and, therefore, greatly cherished.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Goryews, and husband, Skip, of Victoria and her son, David Izell, and hiswife, Sandy, of Burnet. She is also survived by brothers Dale Schlomach and wife Betty of Giddings, Owen Schlomach of Pflugerville, Harvey Schlomach and wife, Elaine of Austin; sister, Ada Ruth Boyd and husband, Bud, of Burnet; sister-in-law Shirley Guess of Burnet, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Izell, her parents and brothers Roger B. Schlomach and John Schlomach.
A life celebration service will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Burnet with Rev. Jack Whyburn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the church, charity or hospice of choice.
A special "thank you” goes to Joyce’s caregivers in Victoria at AlzCare, Texan East Nursing Home and Accolade Hospice for all their loving care and kindness.
