Charles H. Hoyer

Charles H. Hoyer passed away Oct. 31, 2013, at his home in Burnet. Charles was born in Wichita County to Charlie and Alma Hoyer. He was married to Bonnie Harris Hoyer in Wichita Falls on Jan. 18, 1946. All of Charles’ brothers and sisters have preceded him in death. He also had many loving nieces and nephews.
He has three children, Dana Hoyer West and husband Robert of Burnet; David L Hoyer and wife Robin Breshears Hoyer of San Antonio; and Lloyd C. Hoyer of Corpus Christi, Texas. Charles is also survived by three grandchildren Heather M West and husband Johnny Peters of Buchanan Dam; Katy L. Hoyer and fiancé John Turk who will marry on Nov. 2, 2013 of San Antonio; and Patrick R. West and wife Tammi West of Houston. He also has one great granddaughter, June West.
Charles served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a non-commissioned officer. His service included duty in Italy and North Africa during World War II. After the war he returned to Texas, where he met & married Bonnie Harris in Wichita Falls in 1946. Corpus Christi became home for 50 years, until they moved to Burnet in 2004.
He was born mechanically inclined and used his interest in automobile racing to support the pit crew for his brother-in-law at the 1960 Indianapolis 500 race.
Charles loved his family, home and was passionate about hunting. He already had his hunting license and was looking forward to hunting with son David and nephew John Ruby.
He leaves the family rich memories of laughter and a unique sense of humor. Charles was a one of a kind man, who blessed the world and those around him. Heaven is a little bit sweeter for its new resident, and those he leaves behind will cherish their memories of him until we see him again.
Graveside services were held Monday Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at Central Texas State Cemetery in Killeen.
