BHS grad McGee signs with Texans

Former Burnet High School quarterback Stephen McGee, who was recently released from the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, signed a contract with the Houston Texans on Thursday.

Llano manages just 26 points in loss

                Basketball follows a simple form: get a good big man and little man who can handle the ball. Think Kareem and Magic. Russell and Cousy. Shaq and Kobe.
               Burnet (12-8) used this classic approach in downing Llano 49-26 to go 2-0 in District 8-3A play. Llano is 0-2 and 13-11.

Gatesville unleashes 3-point storm

It’s hard to imagine anybody shooting three-point shots as well as Gatesville did Friday night at Llano High School.
The visiting Hornets (1-0, 10-12) connected on eight of 10 three-point shots in the first half (75 percent) and 13 of 19 (68 percent) for the entire game to win the District 8-3A opener 64-42. Llano is 0-1 and 13-10.

Wimberley holds off Llano girls

The rivalry between Wimberley and Llano’s girls’ teams was renewed Friday night at the LHS Gym. Wimberley won a rather schizoid affair 42-39 when Llano’s Cierra Jordan just missed a buzzer shot that would have sent the game into overtime.

Shipley signs with Jacksonville

Former Burnet Bulldog and University of Texas Longhorn, Jordan Shipley, signed to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 20. Shipley has played in 18 NFL games since his third-round draft in 2010.

During his rookie year he led all first-year players with 52-catches for 600-yards. His NFL career stats stood at 56-receptions for 614-yards and three touchdowns before joining the Jaguars.

He caught one pass for 24-yards in his Jacksonville debut on Sunday, Nov. 25 and the Jaguars defeated Tennessee, 24-19. Shipley will wear the number 16 jersey.

Flames lose 38-12 to Sacred Heart

Faith Academy ended its inaugural 11-man football season Friday night, falling to defending state champion Hallettsville Sacred Heart 38-12 in the second round of the TAPPS Division III playoffs.

Llano falls in second half

BROWNWOOD – Llano’s Rhett Brooks ended his senior season in style Friday night, playing hard to the end.

Despite the senior’s efforts, the Yellow Jackets dropped a 41-13 decision to Brownwood at Gordon Wood Stadium in the season finale for Llano.
