Horace Monroe Ashabranner Sept. 4, 1928 ~ May 17, 2013

 Horace Monroe Ashabranner, 84, died on May 17. Horace was born at home in Burnet on Sept. 4, 1928, to Hiram Thomas ("Tom”) Ashabranner and Vivian Merle Davis.  He was a fifth-generation Texan.

Horace served 21 months in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He went on to become a successful homebuilder in the greater Houston area where he founded and ran his own company, Trendex Homes.

Horace is survived by his children: Tom Ashabranner and wife Marti, Don Ashabranner and wife Lisa, and Clair Berno and husband Mike. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.

Horace was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years (Eileen), as well as two brothers and two sisters.

Gerald Dean Lewis Sept 9, 1935 ~ May 19,2013

Gerald Dean Lewis, 77, was born on Sept. 9, 1935 in High Grove, Texas to Gordon and Amanda Purcell Lewis. He died May 19, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Gerald enjoyed life to the fullest until the last few years. Some of his favorite things to do was going to the rodeo, hunting, fishing and watching wrestling and old westerns. But he really loved his weekly trips to Opie’s Bar-B-Q in Spicewood.
He started work at Texas Granite in 1955, and in later years he loved welding and building things out in his shop.

Phillis Lewis Madison Jan. 31, 1944 ~ May 15, 2013

Phillis Lewis Madison, 69, of Irving died May 15, 2013. Her final days were spent surrounded by family whom she had touched in so many great and wonderful ways.
Phillis was born Jan. 31, 1944 in Providence, R.I., to Phillip and Jewel Mae McClish Lewis. She was a graduate of Burnet High School.
Phillis is survived by her loving son and daughter Brandon Madison and Charissa Madison both of Grand Prairie, granddaughters Ashley Ballengee and Jordyn Madison also of Grand Prairie, sisters Pat Boehm of Spokane, Wash., and Sandi Etheredge of Austin, .
Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 21 at 3 p.m. at Smithwick Cemetery in Smithwick with Darrell Debo officiating.

Leon J. Jay July 3, 1926 ~ May 16, 2013

Leon J. Jay, 86, of Bertram died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at his residence. He was born July 3, 1926 in Millers View to Ollie Jay and Ruby Grace Jennings Jay.
He was a rancher and a carpenter. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wilburn Jay, sister Floy Brown and is survived by sisters Wilma Jackson, Rachel Marie Holland, Loyce Jackson, Joyce Davis, his loving  wife Jean Jay. He is survived by his daughters Donna and Larry Graham of Beaumont, Cheri and Chris Wienecke of Lampasas, and son Duane Jay of Bertram. He is also survived by his grandchildren Casey Graham, Amy Stephens, Jamie Snyder, Candice Odell, Byron Jay, Katy Jay, Cassidy, Wienecke, Carson Faith Wienecke and Camden Wienecke, and his great grandchildren Cash Leonadas Graham, Lillian Graham, Caitlyn Odell, Carter Odell and Colton Odell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Jo Keel March 30, 1927~May 14, 2013

Mary Jo Keel, 86, of Marble Falls, died May 14, 2013. She was born March 30, 1927 in Post, Texas, she was the daughter of Noah and Dollie McClellan. She was a retired cafeteria employee.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Betty Jo and Jay Coburn, son  Terry Becker, son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Prung Becker, grandchildren Cecil Jackson, Tiffany Smart (Brad), Macee Williams, Matthew Becker (Krystal), Tamara Carter (Brett) and Taryn Seals (James), and great grandchildren Dylan Jackson, Dalton Jackson, Devin Jackson, Emmalee Williams, Carlee Williams, Jake Carter, Ava Carter, Grant Carter, Jake Becker, and  Kole Becker. She is also survived by her brother Noah McClellan and her sister Lois June Clark along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pat H. Sonnamaker Nov. 1, 1927 ~ May 12, 2013

Pat Holifield Sonnamaker, 85, of Highland Haven died Mothers’ Day, May 12, 2013 at Lighthouse Hospice in Round Rock.
This truly was mother’s day for both Pat and her family. Four generations of Sonnamaker women, her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter were together for her passing under a canopy of giant spreading live oaks that are hundreds of years old.
Pat was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on Nov. 1, 1927. As a descendent of the Natchez Nation and Muskogee Creek Nation, she is listed on the DAWS role. Her great-great-great grandfather "Red Eagle” was a Creek Indian chief. Her father’s family included John Neely Bryan, Scott Beeman, and William Lagow. These families homesteaded and were a part of the establishment of Dallas on the Trinity River.

Weldon ‘W.C’ Pannell Sr Nov. 25, 1949 ~ May 2, 2013

Weldon "W.C” Pannell Sr., 63, of Marble Falls died May 2, 2013 surrounded by family and friends.
He was born on Nov. 25, 1949 in Austin to Willie and Vida Milam Pannell who preceded him in death.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1978. He then went to work for the city of Austin until his retirement. He was not one to be idle, he kept himself busy for several more years through self employment.

Eugene ‘Gene’ Crosby July 26, 1942 ~ May 9, 2013

Eugene Frederick "Gene” Crosby, 70, of Kingsland died May 9, 2013. He was born July 26, 1942 in Wisconsin.
Gene was a truck driver. He loved to fish and hunt. He and his wife Virginia eloped in Las Vegas.
Survivors include in wife Virginia Crosby of Kingsland and other family survives.
Graveside services were held Monday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet with the Rev. John Woody officiating.

Esperanza M. Holford Jan. 28, 1935 ~May 6, 2013

Born Jan. 28, 1935, Esperanza M. Holford ne Lopez passed away May 6, 2013.
She was predeceased by her husband William L. Holford.
Her legacy was great, she has two children survived by her, William L. Holford Jr. from Spokane Wash., and Dionne E. Holford-Pray from Dallas.
She is also survived by her sister Vilma Johnson ne Lopez from Houston and her brother Robert Lopez from Laredo as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
No matter where she went she left her mark.
